ABOUT. We do not provide news about celebrities, trends or events. Instead, we devote each edition to deal with one of the great cultural issues of our time. ABOUT is a truly international composition of culture, presenting the diverse positions of contemporary artists, photographers and academics rather than trying to make a definitive statement. Putting together ABOUT has been closer to curating than editing in the classical sense. You have probably noticed that ABOUT uses a larger format than most magazines. We can already hear people complain that ABOUT is unwieldy (which could be true in some cases) but there are good reasons for the choice. Viewing a photo series in a generous size allows a more intimate approach to the photographs in ABOUT. Turning the pages and discovering what follows thus becomes a more enhanced sensual experience. Perhaps sitting at a table with the magazine in front of you would be a more suitable position for reading ABOUT. |
We chose “Beauty” as our first topic even if a lot of other magazines deal with it already. In ABOUT Beauty we want to show a different approach. Everybody deals with beauty in one way or another but a deeper look at how it affects our lives shows that it is not an innocent issue. We are happy to present contemporary positions on beauty that dive into the ocean of desires and contradictions, the tension between pleasure and pain, that comes with it. We are confident you can find something to relate to in the Zero Issue of ABOUT. We have worked hard to feature a wide range of approaches to beauty that could even seem contradictory. We hope ABOUT Beauty will open a space for more questions rather than just give definitive answers. Enjoy! |
